Seattle Surge is the official Call of Duty League franchise team of Seattle, United States. It is owned and operated by Enthusiast Gaming and Canucks Sports & Entertainment. It is the successor to Luminosity Gaming, which had competed continuously in Call of Duty between 2015 and 2019.
History[edit]
Modern Warfare[edit]
The Seattle Franchise was announced as a team on September 13, 2019. On October 21, the team revealed their starting roster, consisting of Karma, Enable, Octane, Slacked and Apathy. Nubzy joined as the head coach. On October 30, the team branding was revealed as the Seattle Surge. Pandur and Proto joined as the team's first two substitutes on November 27. TeddyRecKs joined as the team's Search and Destroy analyst on December 4.
The Surge started their season off in heartbreaking fashion - losing two game fives to Florida Mutineers and Toronto Ultra. In Week 2, they were beaten by Dallas Empire in their first Group A match, beat Los Angeles Guerrillas in their next match, before losing to Dallas Empire again in the final qualifying match. With a week off, the Surge came into Week 4 with a roster change - Pandur for Enable. Minnesota RØKKR defeated Seattle in the first match, newly formed Los Angeles Guerrillas were beaten in match 2, but then Minnesota RØKKR again took down the Surge and sent them searching for answers for their roster. After an extended break due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Surge returned in Week 5. They lost in game fives to both Minnesota RØKKR and Paris Legion to finish Top 8. Week 6 looked to be an improvement as they finished Top 4, losing to Atlanta FaZe in the semifinal, but the Surge's two victories came against Los Angeles Guerrillas. As of week 6, the Guerrillas are the only team that the Surge has defeated (four times). On May 12, following little improvement as a team, Enable was added back to the starting lineup, taking his spot back from Pandur. Going in to their Home Series, the Surge announced that Enable would be playing in the respawns and Pandur would be playing in the Search and Destroys, a first in Call of Duty League history. After losing to New York 3-1, Pandur came back in to the full starting lineup for the Surge's loss to Los Angeles Guerrillas. This evoked a Twitter meltdown from the players who now lost to the only team they defeated after five months of the league. According to Slacked, the team had not scrimmed in the two weeks (one week according to coach Nubzy) leading up to their own Home Series due to the team trying to get a new fifth player. Octane, the only player on the team consistently performing well this season, went on to say how he wished the year was over and did not want to play anymore. Karma claimed the team was full of "leftover" players who did not get a roster spot on other teams. Week 9, Karma announced his retirement from competitive Call of Duty due to his lack of desire to play Modern Warfare.
Proto moved into the starting lineup to fill his place. Seattle impressively went up 2-0 on Atlanta before a 45 minute technical break due to CDL broadcast software crashing. The break iced the Surge and FaZe reverse swept them. Following this incident, the league created a rule where if the series was to be delayed due to broadcast issues again, the series would resume off stream if it lasts over fifteen minutes. Surge then went up against Minnesota RØKKR with Exceed subbing in for Alexx. They went 2-0 down, and reverse swept the RØKKR. This was their first non-LA Guerrillas victory of the season after 18 matches. Dallas knocked them out 3-0 in the next series. Week 12 brought more drama as Slacked lost connection to the game vs London. They lost the map and the series. All of the Surge players were very vocal on Twitter about their problem with how this situation and many others throughout the season were handled citing lack of competitive integrity. They then lost to OpTic Gaming LA to get eliminated. In the final week, Seattle lost to Chicago and OpTic Gaming LA to round out their season in 11th place with 50 CDL Points.
Seattle started in Losers Round 1 at the Call of Duty League Championship 2020 and were defeated 3-0 by Paris Legion. They finished the tournament Top 12, last place.
Black Ops Cold War[edit]
The off season began with Proto, Pandur, Apathy, Slacked, Enable, and TeddyRecKs getting dropped, with Octane the only member staying from the original roster. Gunless, Prestinni, and Loony joined the team on September 23 to form the full Cold War lineup.

Meaning | The Seattle Surge brand was developed to harness the electric energy of an ocean storm. With our brand, we emphasize the Pacific Northwest’s natural surroundings by highlighting colors, geographical elements, and folklore associated with the Emerald City and Pacific Ocean.
Our logo pays homage to Poseidon, the mythical God of Sea and Storms. Within the primary logo of a contemporary trident, Poseidon can be found by the inclusion of turquoise eyes. The logo is completed by a nod to our hometown city with the inclusion of the top of the iconic Space Needle. |
Seattle Surge: Our Story |
---|
An imposing force – rising from the sea with constant, sweeping power. With a trident strong enough to defend, neutralize and attack all that comes its way.
Seattle Call of Duty takes their strength from the relentless surroundings of the Pacific Northwest – forging a path to victory beneath the unforgiving shadows of the Emerald City and Cascade Range. Undefinable. Ill-tempered. Relentless. |
