Biography[]

Beginnings[]

Matthew "Burns" Potthoff started playing in local tournaments around the age of 14. and he slowly started working from locals events to traveling nationwide for Call of Duty Tournaments. After winning the $25,000 Activision Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Free For All National Tournament, he decided it would be best to pursue a career in competitive gaming. He would also finish 3rd with Obey at UMG Chicago, his highest placing with a team during the season. Burnsoff would continue to play going into the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 season, finishing 9th at UMG Chicago once again with Obey, along with another 17th place finish at the MLG Winter Championship. During the season, he would also play with IcoNs Black, Aware Gaming.NA, and vVv Gaming.

Ghosts[]

Burns would catch his big break with the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts. Teaming with Revan, Mochila, and NexXx, the eGirl Slayers would surprise many and take 5th place at UMG Philadelphia. From there, Burns, along with Mochila and Revan, would join Team Curse to form Curse NY, along with Blfire. The team would finish 7th at the Call of Duty Winter Invitational, and 8th in the MLG CoD League Season 1. However, the team would fall just short at the U.S Regional Championships, falling to OpTic Gaming in the qualifying match, finishing 12th and unable to attend the Call of Duty Championship 2014. Burns would stay with the Curse organization, and planned to play with Curse NY for the MLG CoD League Season 2. However, after a rule change, Curse would only be allowed 2 teams to compete. After Curse Youth dissolved, and a flurry of roster changes, he would find himself on a re-branded Curse Black, along with Mochila, Enable, and Tipsy. Many would doubt this rag-tag group, and they would have a lot to prove moving forward. They established themselves as a great team online, whom many said would fail to perform at LAN. The team finished 5th in season 2, earning a spot in the Championship Bracket going into the MLG Championship Anaheim. Curse Black would lose early to Denial eSports 3-2 in the first round, dropping into the loser's bracket. From there, Burns and the team would heat up, defeating FaZe Clan, Epsilon eSports, and Team EnVyUs, before finally falling to TCM Gaming, finishing 4th overall at the tournament. Burnsoff and Curse were now looking to carry this form forward across the Atlantic at Gfinity 3. However, due to a problem with Tipsy's passport the team had to play with a fill in of Crowster and finished a disappointing 5th-8th having barely made it out of their group. They would hope to find their form of MLG Anaheim at UMG Dallas but that continued to elude them as they crashed out at the hands of Optic Nation and finished 7th-8th. Missing out on the MLG CoD League Season 3 Playoffs, Matt and Curse would end the season with a 7-8th placing at UMG Nashville 2014.

Advanced Warfare[]

Going into the Advanced Warfare season Team Curse released their players and decided to leave the Call of Duty scene. For the first six months of the game Burns found his home on Automatic Reload. Automatic Reload were able to qualify for the Season 1 of MLG's Advanced Warfare Pro League, then would go on to suprise everyone with a 5th place finish at the 2015 Call of Duty Championship. After falling to make Top 8 in the MLG Pro League for a second season, Burns left Automatic Reload and joined Team Orbit, were he would requalify for the MLG Pro League. After a poor placing at UMG Dallas 2015, Burns was traded to Rise Nation. Rise Nation would finish the season with a 9-12th placing at the MLG Pro League Season 3 Playoffs and the MLG World Finals 2015. Burns was released from Rise going into the Black Ops 3 season.

Black Ops 3[]

Burns would find himself along side Tipsy, Anticity, and ColeChan on Happy Hour at the first event of the year the 2016 CWL NA Pro Division Qualifying Invitational Tournament. Happy Hour would need to win two matches to qualify for 2016 NA CWL Stage 1. They would fall 0-3 to compLexity Gaming in the final match. On December 10, Cloud9 entered the Call of Duty scene with the roster of Burns, MerK, SiLLY, and Mochila. However the roster didn't last long as Burns and company failed once again to qualify for 2016 NA CWL Stage 1. Going into the first open event of the season Burns, MerK, Apathy, and StuDyy joined Team Liquid. They would end up taking 1st place in the UMG South Carolina 2016 Open Bracket and 3-4th in the UMG South Carolina 2016 Champion Tournament. They would stay together and qualified for 2016 NA CWL Stage 1 Relegation. Liquid would take a 3-0 series lead, in the best of 7 series, against H2k-Gaming. But H2k-Gaming was able to pull off the reverse sweep to retain their CWL slot. Following their loss at Relegation, Liquid released their players and left the Call of Duty scene.
