Heretics Miami 2019

Team Heretics, formerly known as Heretics KFC for sponsorship reasons,[1] is an esports organization based in Spain that currently has teams in Counter Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Fortnite and Clash Royale.

History[]

Black Ops 3[]

Team Heretics was founded in early August 2016 and acquired their first Call of Duty roster later that month. They signed the ex-Giants Thunderkids roster which previously won Sprint 1, Sprint 2, and Final Cup of LVP Season 10. This roster, consisting of Lucky, JurNii, Oney, and Pabloskis, was full of under 18 players and thus they were not eligible to compete in the CWL yet. They rounded out the Black Ops 3 season with second place finishes to Spanish CWL team Giants Gaming at the SocialNAT GGCup 2016 and Madrid Gaming Experience 2016.

Infinite Warfare[]

The team stuck together going into the new season and won the LVP Season 11 Regular Season and Final Cup. They also finished second at the GAME Stadium Playoffs 2017 and Top 4 at the LVP Season 12 Final Cup. With intentions to compete in the CWL in 2018, Heretics decided to revamp their roster. One of the most accomplished players in Spanish Call of Duty history, MethodZ, joined the team from rivals Giants Gaming in place of Oney.

World War II[]

With JurNii still under 18 until February, envdiaN joined as a temporary replacement. They went to the first CWL event of the year, CWL Dallas, and came within one round of qualifying for the Championship Bracket before losing to Team SiNister. A month later, the team returned to the United States for CWL New Orleans but did not have the same luck as Dallas as they bowed out at Top 80. Luckily for them, JurNii would be eligible to compete at the next CWL event. He and Sukry joined to replace envdiaN and Pabloskis and FlexZ joined to compete in the CWL National Circuit Spain 2018 Stage 1 for JurNii. At CWL Atlanta the team not only made it out of the Open Bracket but did so in the Winners Bracket, qualifying for pool play. They unfortunately were matched with OpTic Gaming, FaZe Clan, eUnited, and eRa Eternity and went 0-4, sending them to the beginning of the Losers Bracket. After defeating Most Wanted in Round 1, they were defeated by UNILAD Esports. This Top 20 placement was the best by a Spanish team at a major CWL event since Gamers2's Top 16 finish at the Call of Duty Championship 2015. The team would go on to get out of the Open Brackets at both CWL Birmingham and CWL Seattle but were not able to qualify for Relegation.

Going into the second half of the year, Heretics was the two-time defending champions of the Spanish National Circuit. They won the Regular Season of the LVP Season 13 but finished fourth at the Final Cup. Right before the Final Cup, the team had attended CWL Anaheim and once again made it out of the Open Bracket but were beaten by Enigma6 in the first round of Losers Bracket. Looking ahead to the biggest event of the year, Heretics attended the Call of Duty World League Championship 2018 Last Chance Qualifier as now four-time defending Spanish National Circuit Champions. They defeated Vertacon and Morituri eSports with a combined map count of 6-1 to qualify for the World Championship. On day 1, they beat Epsilon eSports in the first match and then almost defeated group favorites Team Kaliber but lost on the final map 3-2. On day 2, they needed a victory against Lightning Pandas to try and force a tiebreaker but lost map 5 again, eliminating them from the event.

Black Ops 4[]

Adding MeTTalZ would be the only roster change for Heretics going into the new game to fill out their roster for 5v5. They started out the season on fire by winning two out of the first three online 2Ks and the CWL Las Vegas Spanish Qualifier. At CWL Las Vegas, the team made it out of the Open Bracket in Winners by defeating one of the Open Bracket favorites FC Black 3-0. This sent them into Pool B with Evil Geniuses, Luminosity Gaming, Red Reserve, and UYU. The team went 1-3, with their only win being pool winners Evil Geniuses, and were sent to the first round of the Losers Bracket. They defeated Revenge but were then knocked out by Team Reciprocity with a Top 20 finish. This placement was good enough for them to qualify for the CWL Pro League Qualifier. At the qualifier, they solidified themselves as a top team in the game by winning five out of the six matches in their pool, only losing to Team Envy in map 5. This gave the team auto qualification to the CWL Pro League, the first time for a Spanish team. Heretics came out hot and won their first five matches of the Pro League before losing their final two to 100 Thieves and Team Envy. The team had high expectations going into CWL Fort Worth but struggled in pool play by losing all three of their series. Starting in Losers Bracket, Heretics defeated Excelerate Gaming and Team Envy before falling to 100 Thieves to earn themselves a Top 8 finish, the best ever for a Spanish team at a major CWL event.
