Team Kaliber is an American eSports and Gaming entertainment organisation. The team currently resides in the United States with a team house in Atlanta, Georgia.
History[]
The Birth of Kaliber[]
Team Kaliber was founded in 2013 for the Call of Duty: Black Ops II season, backed by several YouTubers, lead by Jimmy "chaosxsilencer" M. The team set out to build a team ethic of loyalty, teamwork, and dedication. Instead of attempting to recruit the roster of an already established team, tK built their own bringing together players they felt would be dedicated to those values the team believed in. With that in mind, the first roster was announced as - Sharp, Goonjar, Neslo, and Theory.
Black Ops II[]
The team made their debut at UMG Atlanta 2013, where they showcased the talent of the players with an impressive 2nd place finish, only losing out to compLexity Gaming. Impressed with the placing, the team retained the roster and continued practicing. Unfortunately, they were unable to replicate this performance again during the remainder of the season. At the MLG PAX Prime Invitational 2013 the team took 3rd place, and did the same when they traveled to London for Gfinity 2. The decline in placings continued at the final event of the season, UMG Dallas 2013, where the team finished 4th - even with 4 of the top teams missing the event, choosing to attend the MLG Fall Invitational 2013 instead. Despite this, the team decided to stick together going into the next game.
Ghosts[]
With the release of Ghosts, the team was looking to finally get their first event win, which had so far alluded them. They had hoped to gain momentum by attending a local LAN at eBash, however they came up short placing 2nd. However, the first real test of the new season was the MLG Fall Championship 2013. While the team played well throughout the weekend, they came up just short again, finishing 2nd - once again unable to defeat the powerhouse team compLexity Gaming, who continued their dominating run. Following the event, Goonjar left the team to join Team EnVyUs. This was the first time the team had ever had to deal with a roster change. Fortunately, compLexity Gaming had just dropped Clayster, leaving one of the top AR players in the game as a Free Agent. Team Kaliber took the opportunity and recruited Clayster to round out the roster.
Going into UMG Philadelphia 2014 the new roster was looking to prove a point, especially Clayster, who was trying to silence his doubters. Unfortunately, history was to repeat itself again, with the team managing to reach the grand finals, only to lose once again to compLexity Gaming, again finishing 2nd. Following the event, Clayster left for OpTic Gaming, leaving the team with a gap to fill yet again. A few days later the team announced they would be recruiting FormaL. FormaL had been a Halo player previously, but had proved he was capable of being on a top CoD team at UMG Philadelphia 2014. With no major LAN events in the near future, the new team began practicing for the Call of Duty Championship 2014: US Regional Final.
On January 23rd, 2014 the team announced it would be breaking up the core 3 members of the team since its founding. Neslo, was let go and replaced by former member Goonjar, who left Team EnVyUs to rejoin. Team Kaliber finished 3rd with this team at MLG CoD League Season 1, and would enter the US Regional Final as a highly regarded team. They finished 3rd in this tournament also, behind compLexity and Strictly Business. Going into the Call of Duty Championship 2014, tK had high aspirations of improving on their many 2nd and 3rd place finishes. The team finished pool play 3-0, and faced OpTic Gaming in the first round of the Championship bracket. Team Kaliber lost to Optic 3-0 – a surprise result - and dropped down into the Loser's bracket. In their first losers bracket match they faced EnVyUs, and lost a close series 3-2, finishing with a Top 16 placing - the team's lowest placing since its launch the year before.
Post 2014 Champs[]
After COD Champs, Formal left Team Kaliber to join FaZe Black and Theory to join FaZe Red. Team Kaliber picked up Apathy, who had recently left Strictly Business, and Neslo returned from Team JusTus. This roster struggled online in the MLG CoD League Season 2, primarily due to internet issues. Apathy was unable to attend UGC Niagara due to vacation, and so the team recruited Madcat for the event. The team performed well given the roster circumstance, finishing in 7-8th place. As the squad entered the next event, MLG X Games Invitational, it was questioned if the team would be able return to their past level. Team Kaliber began the event well defeating OpTic Nation 3-2 and Evil Geniuses 3-1 in group play, guaranteeing a Top 4 finish. In round 1 of the medal bracket, Team Kaliber carried their momentum through, defeating EnVyUs 3-1, and advanced to face OpTic Gaming in the grand Final. tK won the first domination in the series, but lost the next two maps. They won the second Domination, tying the series at 2-2, and taking it to the final map of Search and Destroy on Sovereign. OpTic won the thrilling final map 6-4, and Team Kaliber became the first Call of Duty X Games silver medallists.
Despite their 2nd place finish at X Games, tK continued to struggle in Stage 2 of the league, only just managing to qualify for the Championship Bracket at MLG Anaheim. tK entered the tournament with the lowest seed (11th), and faced Epsilon in the first round. They defeated Epsilon after several close games, and advanced to face EnVyUs in winner's round 2. They fell to nV 3-0, and dropped into the loser's bracket. There, they faced an in form TCM squad, who they lost to 3-1, eliminating them from the tournament. After Anaheim, Apathy left to join Faze, and the team announced Theory would be returning for the MLG CoD League Season 3.
Advanced Warfare[]
Long time member Neslo left the team at the start of the Advanced Warfare (AW) season, and tK recruited Loony from Rise Nation. At the first event of the year, MLG Columbus 2014, the team began strongly. Their first match was against OpTic Gaming, which they won 3-2 them on main stage, the result was considered a significant upset. tK completed pool play with matches against StDx ESPORT, Prophecy and Noble eSports. They finished pools with a 3-1 record, however due to their inferior map count, moved into losers bracket. Their first losers bracket match was up against Carnage, which they won convincingly 3-0, as tK began an impressive losers bracket run going through established teams including and in order Strictly Business, OpTic Nation, EnVyUs, but their run was ended byFaZe, who they lost to 3-1. FaZe moved on to the grand final to play OpTic Gaming.
Black Ops 3[]
Team Kaliber began the Black Ops 3 season with the same squad as began Black Ops 2 - Sharp, Goonjar, Theory, and Neslo. tK attended the first event of the year, the Totino's Invitational. The team made it to semi-finals, only to come up short against Rise Nation, losing 1-2 and to place 4th in the tournament. tK qualified for Stage One of the CWL at the Qualifying Invitational Tournament. Reaching the finals against EnVyUs to lose 0-3, and move to the loser bracket, where they defeated CLG 3-1 to qualify. tK then attended UMG South Carolina, where they placed 9-16th. tK placed 10th in the 2016 NA CWL Stage 1 Regular Season, with an 8-14 record, putting them into relegation. Unfortunately Goonjar could not attend due to visa issues, and so tK were required to get substitute. As no one who had competed in Stage 1 could be used as a sub, tK picked up retired pro MBoZe. tK played a best of 7 against KingPapey, but lost 2-4 and so did not qualify for Stage 2 of the CWL. Sharp then entered retirement, Neslo joined Echo Fox, and Goonjar left to join compLexity. Theory became the captain and picked up amateur players Xotic, Holler, CaLiFa. This roster placed 29-36th at MLG Anaheim. tK released the three amateur players and recruited Happy, ColeChan, and Goonjar. The team attended MLG Orlando 2016 and was placed in a pool with OpTic Gaming, Luminosity and Kingsmen. tK placed 3rd in their pool with a record of 1-2 and dropped into the losers bracket. tK beat Pnda Gaming 3-1, but then lost to EnVyUs 3-0, finishing 9-12th. This roster then placed 9-12th again, but this time at the 2016 Call of Duty World League Championship, a respectable finish given the short period of time the players had been together.
Infinite Warfare[]
Team Kaliber began the Infinite Warfare (IW) with the same team that had finished Black Ops 3. They began unsuccessfully, with a disappointing 13-16th finish at the 2017 CWL Las Vegas Open. After some decent performances in the online MLG GameBattles 2K tournaments, the team hoped to improve on their Vegas result at the Atlanta Open. However, the team finished worse than before in 17-20th, along with an abysmal 21-24th placement at the 2017 CWL Paris Open shortly after.
